Where to stay in Madinah

Where to stay in Madinah is an easy choice: the city is calmer and more compact than Makkah, and most visitors can find a hotel within walking distance of Masjid an-Nabawi. The questions are which side of the mosque you prefer and how much you want to pay for the last few hundred metres.

The central area (Markazia)

The central area surrounds the mosque on all sides. Hotels here open straight onto the courtyards, and you can walk to every prayer in a few minutes. It is the most convenient choice for older visitors and families.

On the north side, hotels face the main entrances used by many men's groups. The south side is close to the Bab As-Salam area and to the shops of the central zone. Check which gate your hotel is nearest to, especially if you travel with women, since women's prayer areas have their own entrances.

Just outside the centre

A few streets back from the courtyards, prices drop noticeably while the walk stays under ten to fifteen minutes. These hotels suit pilgrims who want to save money and do not mind a short walk in the heat.

Near Quba Mosque

Some travellers stay near Quba Mosque, a few kilometres south. It is quieter and cheaper, but you will need a taxi or bus to reach Masjid an-Nabawi for each prayer.
